Job Description:

As a member of the Global Logistics team, the Manager, North America Logistics will be responsible for providing the strategy and the leadership to manage the North America in country service providers’ activities, selection process, and in country delivery.

He/she will also be responsible for managing the company's regional distribution, transportation, and customs compliance functions. The position will develop and oversee all processes and procedures involved in the company's regional supply chain, ensuring structures and personnel are in place. He/she will monitor and control in the most efficient manner the flow of goods and materials between Ciena’s supply base through to its customers. In addition, the Manager, North America Logistics will be responsible for process improvements, contract negotiations, SOPs, SOWs, negotiation strategies and cost reduction initiatives according to company strategy. He/she will recommend new business solutions, propose contract negotiations, and provide commercial issue resolution.

The Manager, North America Logistics will be the key contact and own the logistics activities within the region.

Specific Responsibilities

Develop and implement corporate Logistics strategies in the North America region.

Develop sound business process for assessing, selecting and managing Logistics Service Providers (LSP), vendors, and 3PL relationships.

Oversee the RFI, RFP, and RFQ processes for in Country Logistics Services including but not limited to Transportation, Warehousing, Last Mile Delivery, & Customs Brokerage.

Negotiation of Service Contracts, Pricing Agreements, and all Commercial aspects with LSP’s.

Set goals and objectives for direct reports.

Ensure alignment on strategic supply chain initiatives across multiple departments.

Interface with the legal counsel to provide feedback on contract negotiations.

Monitor all information and performance requirements for all logistics vendors.

Ensure tactical trade compliance in region.

Work with the Global Logistics Cost Manager on routing guides and rates to be more beneficial for the company and the customers.

Recommend the opening and closing of project warehouses according to business needs.

Mitigate logistics costs wherever possible.

Work with LSP’s and 4PL’s on pricing needs outside of contracted rates for special projects; ensure communication of rates to all applicable parties.

Central escalation owner for all logistics issues in region.

Interact with existing and potential customers to map out critical business processes and translate functional systems requirements to business solutions.

If needed, assist in conducting operations performance reviews with customer to ensure customer expectations are being met.

Work with Order Management, Sales, and Project Manager teams to ensure an effective and efficient logistics service delivery of products according to customer contracts.

Conduct performance reviews to direct employees.

Staff and manage the North America logistics team.

Candidate Profile

Have an excellent understanding of pricing and costing logistics services.

Superior interpersonal and relationship management skills with the ability to foster conflict resolution.

Must be a highly organized self-starter and proficient with PC / MS office suite. Oracle experience preferred.

Ability to manage direct report in the U.S. or at remote locations.

Understanding of contracts and relationship management processes in supply chains.

Ability to link and articulate process change to logistics impact / benefit.

Able to meet objectives without direct supervision and make sound decisions in an autonomous environment.

Strong working knowledge in project management with demonstrable project/ customer-focused accomplishments.

Excellent communication and presentation skills, both one-on-one and in groups. Ability to analyze and effectively communicate technical and business impacts.

Experience benchmarking services against the external industry.

Proficient in English. Multi-lingual candidates preferred.

Ability to travel domestically and International.

Education / Experience

Minimum of ten years experience in managing key logistics organizations, including warehousing, order execution, logistics outsourcing, and transportation operations management.

University degree in Logistics, Business Administration or related fields. MS or MBA preferred.
